Ja titeln är inte min, den kommer från an artikel i San Francisco-baserade Wired Magazine, men titeln är inte helt fel och den innehåller dessutom en viktig punkt. För I takt med att den amerikanska arbetsmarknaden datoriseras och jobben förvandlas till kunskapsjobb så ökar också Silicon Valleys inflytande i USA och världen. Det är här som framtidsjobben ligger och kunskapsjobben har ingen plats för diskriminering. Där är det vad man kan som gäller, oavsett varifrån man kommer, vilket språk man talar och hur man ser ut.

Så Silicon Valleys påtryckningar i fråga om könsneutrala äktenskap har otvivelaktigt hjälpt till att hålla frågan på dagordningen inte bara här i Silicon Valley.

But in recent years, the giants of Silicon Valley have played an important role in amplifying the call. Leaders of the world’s biggest tech companies coupled moral conviction in support of marriage equality with bottom-line financial arguments—arguments that only the country’s most powerful business leaders were in a position to make.

Tech leaders have, meanwhile, been outspoken on other instances of discrimination against the LGBT community. Most recently, more than 100 business leaders, including Apple’s Tim Cook, Salesforce’s Marc Benioff, PayPal co-founder Max Levchin, Square CEO Jack Dorsey, and others publicly decried the proposal of so-called “religious freedom” laws that would make it possible for business owners to deny service to LGBT people. The issue came to a head when several CEOs, led by Benioff, vowed to cancel all activities that required their customers and employees to travel to Indiana after the state passed its own “religious freedom” law.

All of which is why today, Silicon Valley is celebrating. Following the ruling, Cook, the first openly gay CEO on the Fortune 500 list, Tweeted his excitement.
