Efter att ha fått hjälp från det Israeliska företaget Cellebrite med att bryta sig in i den iPhone som användes i terrordådet i San Bernadino, så kräver nu FBI och Obama-regeringen återigen att Apple ska skapa en bakdörr in i en iPhone som har används i ett brottsfall i New York. Detta är stick i stäv med vad man tidigare sade att den första iPhonen var ett särfall som inte skulle användas som prejudikat. Det är klart att vad Obama är ute efter är att tvinga Apples Tim Cook att skapa bakdörrar in i alla iPhones, en bakdörr som sen kommer att utökas till alla mobiler från alla andra mobilföretag.

The Justice Department said on Friday it will seek a court order to force Apple Inc. to help unlock an iPhone seized as part of a New York drug investigation, another sign the fight between Washington and Silicon Valley over encryption is far from over.
Apple’s lawyers fired back that they intend to press the federal prosecutors to explain exactly why they can’t get into the iPhone on their own and want the names of any companies that are helping with the effort, citing the recent announcement by the Federal Bureau of Investigation that it had found a way to open a San Bernardino, Calif., terrorist’s cellphone.
The debate between privacy and national security has never been more heated, with Apple and other tech firms going up against the government. So how are text messages encrypted, and what are the controversial “backdoors” that could allow access to them?
“The government continues to require Apple’s assistance in accessing the data that it is authorized to search by warrant,’’ federal prosecutors in Brooklyn wrote to U.S. District Judge Margo Brodie.
The Brooklyn case emerged as a legal test in the fight over encryption and privacy last year, but it was overshadowed for months by a bigger fight over the locked iPhone of Syed Rizwan Farook, who along with his wife killed 14 people and injured 22 others in a shooting at a Dec. 2 holiday party of county workers in San Bernardino.

Det ironiska är att regeringen är helt ointresserad av att kräva bakdörrar för iPhones som har använts i alla masskjutningar i USA som utförs av medlemmar av vapenlobbyn, eller av alla iPhones som har spelat en roll i alla bilkrascher och i alla alkohol-relaterade brott. Brott som tillsammans dödar tiotusentals amerikaner vare år. Det är som alltid skillnad på folk och folk.
